Checklists are **Work Order (Line) Items (WOI/WOLI)** that use one of the following display types:

- Checklist
- Details (if the [useDetailsAsChecklists](https://help.fieldbuddy.com/space/FBDOCS/5670535260/items) configuration option is enabled)

# Checklist fields

Users can use checklists to enter various information through different field types.

Records that allow adjustments to these fields are called **Work Order (Line) Item Details (WOID/WOLID)**.

A WOI can include multiple WOIDs.

Required WOLID [briefcase](https://help.fieldbuddy.com/space/FBDOCS/5367365675/Briefcase#What-is-a-Briefcase) fields that are needed for the features that are described in this page to work correctly are described below.

| **Field** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| `Name` | Name of checklist field. This field is used as the label of the field. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Page__c` | Page/tab of the checklist field. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Order__c` | Order of the checklist field within the page/tab. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Field_Type__c` | Type of the checklist field. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Required__c` | Controls whether or not this field will be marked with a red accent if not filled by user. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Placeholder__c` | Placeholder of the input of the checklist field. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Help_Text__c` | Sublabel of the checklist input. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Formula__c` | Formula for the formula fields. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__API_Name__c` | Internal alias for the checklist field, so that the formulas and filter logic can refer to it. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Filter_Logic__c` | Filter logic that sets up conditional rendering behavior for the checklist field. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Picklist_Values__c` | Picklist options for picklist fields. |
| `FIELDBUDDY__Default_Value__c` | Default value for the input field. |

## 1. Organizer fields

These types divide the checklist into pages, tabs, and sections.

## 2. Input fields

These types accept user input.

Each input type must link to a page using the page field in the checklist.

You can order them using the order field.

### Default values

You can add default values to input fields to prepopulate them when the user opens the checklist.

### Adding attachments and comments to input fields with swipe gesture

Each field supports attachment and comment fields if enabled in the config via [checklistShowActions](https://help.fieldbuddy.com/space/FBDOCS/5670535260/items). If enabled, users can add pictures and comments to a checklist field using a swipe gesture.

> ℹ️ Picture fields support the attachment of only 1 picture. Attaching another picture to a picture filed that already has a picture attached <u>replaces</u> the previously attached picture.

### Required input and checklist completion

Some checklist fields can be marked as `required` at the WOID level.

These fields will display a red accent on the left when left empty.

Swift calculates the checklist completion percentage based on these required fields, <u>even if they are hidden by filter logic</u>.

> ⚠️ Marking an input as required does not prevent the user from closing the work order without entering a value for that field.

### Conditional fields

Use [Filter Logic](https://help.fieldbuddy.com/space/FBDOCS/6020071431/Filter+Logic+in+Checklists) to show or hide fields based on user input in other fields.

# Best practices for checklists

- Keep checklists short.
- Divide long checklists into sections and pages.
- Use filter logic to hide irrelevant pages and fields.
- Set default values for common inputs.
- Provide help text or placeholders to guide users when needed.
