FlexConnect support 2 types of synchronisation - Inbound and Outbound.

Inbound synchronisation is a synchronisation that brings data from external system (like AFAS or Exact Online, EOL) periodically with some frequency to Salesforce.  
Outbound Synchronisation is a synchronisation that updates data in external system based on the data in Salesforce based on new record creation or update event.
